Welcome to Web 2.Education

Over the past year I've been doing a considerable amount of work using Drupal and I'm rather excited about the possibilties it holds for educators and institutions. This site talks quite a bit about Drupal: how to setup, configure and make the most of it. You'll also find other material about Education Technology and some digital notes to myself.

10551 Miles to Go

Now that June is right around the corner, I've begun to reall dig into my Mongolian holiday planning.

Aaron at work pointed me to the Great Circle Mapper which allows you to input your airport destinations and it'll plot a flight plan for you!

If only I had a layover in Kamchatka!

How Many Bloggers Does It Take to Post About an Online Conference?

This morning I was scanning through my feeds from various edtech blogs to "see what was afoot in the old ed-tech echo chamber." Perhaps simiilar to Tom , I tend to peer into the seedy underbelly of so-called ed-tech bloggers with rather copious amounts of trepedation .

In other words (and, I suspect here I'm just re-stating the obvious) most of the time, looking at what the majority of these blogs offer is not a matter of finding out about interesting tools or resources, but rather a slow and somewhat baffling ride up a Conradian-stream of "I link to what you pointed out so that I can post about what he said so that she'll point to my post about his post."

Enjoying Tigers Radio ...

This year I decided to pony up the $14.95 to Bud Selig and his cronies at Major League Baseball to buy a subscription to the gameday audio broadcast of the Detroit Tigers. For afternoon games, like today's 3:00pm Eastern game at Baltimore, it is especially nice to be able to listen to the Tigers at work - not the least reason is because they happen to be winning right now.

The system seems to be working fine while listening on a PC using Firefox. I haven't been able to get it to work at home on my Mac (using FF; haven't tried Safari) and it also balked when I tried to use IE7 on my PC.

Proud to be Twitter-free

After about a week using Twitter I could stand it no longer. It's not so much that I mind know that Lauer is out at Lewis mowing the lawn, I just am not entirely sure I want a text telling me about it. It makes me grumpy...like Hoffman . Anyway, while I'm dropping off Twitter for now, I still think it is a pretty interesting service and am keen on using it at conferences. I especially think it will be good to use at » read more | 1 comment

Flickr "Gamma" ??!!

I just happened to notice this today (the image on the flickr banner) that now reads "Gamma" instead of "beta". Perhaps I just missed something, but what does it mean? Is it just another Web 2.0 nuovo slang? Hm....

Web Mashups: 6 Hour Workshop at NECC

Tim Lauer and I are going to be presenting a six-hour workshop this year at NECC entitled, "Mashups: Making Web Technologies Work for You ." This is the fourth year in a row now that Tim and I will be co-presenting a workshop and our second full-day experience. Last year our workshop covered advanced weblogging tools. It went pretty well, but as is so often the case with Web-centric workshops, the lack of bandwidth and a stable connection hurt us.
